John, Lucy and Isaac from the Calder Valley have recently launched ‘Sow Clever’ – a seed box subscription service that will enable and inspire everyone to get gardening. Customers will also be helping to support their chosen mental health charity, Mind, with 10% of net profits being donated annually.
John said; “Sow Clever was born out of a love for nurturing plants from seed, and the positive effects it had on my mental health and general sense of wellbeing. We want to share and inspire others to reap the same benefits. Gardening is a skill that is often passed down through the generations from parents or grandparents, but not everyone is so fortunate, leaving many people unsure of how to get started or are just too busy to learn from a book. It is our aim to share our knowledge and make it as simple as possible to enjoy gardening”
Studies have found that the mental health benefits of gardening are extensive. Not only can regular gardening reduce mental health problems like depression and anxiety, but it can also reduce stress and combat high blood pressure, as well as improving overall physical fitness.
According to the American Institute of Stress, we regulate our emotions more efficiently outside than we do indoors.
The Sow Clever subscription box is literally so clever! It is delivered to your door each month with everything you need to get started…except the water! Remove the box lid and it transforms into the seed tray. Customers will also receive a simple step-by-step guide, compost discs and their pre-selected vegetable and flower seed packets. The clever box sits conveniently on a windowsill whilst the seeds grow, until the seedlings are ready to plant out into the garden.
Convenient and simple, it takes the pain out of knowing what to plant and when. Perfect for novice gardeners who want to adopt a more environmentally responsible lifestyle, reduce their plastic usage and carbon footprint.
Here at Sow Clever we believe that gardening shouldn’t cost the earth. All Sow Clever packaging is fully recyclable and no plastics are used in the growing kits or subscription boxes.
